Astrological Forecast: May 2020

While May is likely going to feel like a slow month for many of us, there are actually many potential blessings to reap with six lovely trines—so long as we are adjusting our pace accordingly and tending to the present moment. Wherever you find yourself in the world, or whatever changes occur in your life, we can expect shifts to take place gradually. While this slowness may spur anxiety in some, we would be wise to remember that Taurus is not one to shirk out on self-care or pampering. Grant yourself permission to love on and be gentle with yourself! With Venus turning retrograde in the middle of the month, however, we should be mindful not to overspend or overindulge. Should you find the pace of your life picking up this month, it is still advisable to do whatever you can to ease yourself through any transition.

I always found it a bit ironic how Taurus, the slowest-moving sign, is surrounded by Aries and Gemini, which are (in my opinion) the fastest. While we find ourselves entering into Gemini on May 20th, this year is undoubtedly different in many ways, even within the stars. Venus, Saturn, and Jupiter are all going retrograde towards the middle of the month, joining Pluto, which already began to rewind on April 25th. If you would like to learn more about Pluto retrograde and how it can help us reclaim our power, you can watch the video I posted on YouTube here. Retrogrades can be thought of as the planetary energy moving inward. If there was just one resounding message for May 2020, it would be take it slow. Stress or crisis often pulls us into a sort of tunnel vision, but the slower movement of this month can really help us widen our perception, should we take this time to catch our breath.

I suspect this Venus retrograde is going to be especially poignant this time around, as it is known to stir up issues to the surface in our relationships, finances, and overall sense of security. Of course, many of us have already felt this influence as early as April 9th when Venus began to slow down and entered its pre-shadow phase. Regardless of whether or not we are partnered, we will almost certainly find ourselves reflecting on our patterns relative to intimacy—possibly catalyzed by an argument, misunderstanding, or contact with an ex. Do you keep fighting about (or avoiding) the same issues with loved ones? Are you attracted to a certain type of person or situation that just isn’t compatible for you time and time again? Do you keep coming up against walls that prevent you from truly connecting with someone? Between May 13th and June 25th, you are sure to learn some lessons that can really help you transmute the patterns or beliefs that squander your relationships. Don’t be so quick to jump to conclusions, especially if your emotions are high, as you are likely not seeing something clearly if you are actively stressed, agitated, wallowing, or even infatuated by an object of your desire. The Scorpio Full Moon on May 7th may turn up the volume on emotions in general, but for the sake of transformation or releasing. This Full Moon is also a great time of releasing expectations or assumptions of what your external reality must appear like in order to feel good, and embracing your resiliency and sovereignty. A word for the wise: Venus retrograde is also notorious for testing us with the “wrong” suitors—so be discerning before you commit too much of your energy, especially if you’ve been perusing any dating apps in your free time recently. Your newest prince charming might just end up being a frog after all. With Venus in the sign of Gemini, the value of clear and effective communication cannot be emphasized enough. Conflict can make or break a partnership, and such trials often occur during Venus retrograde. While matters of the heart may feel intense or overwhelming, it can be helpful to think of this heat as part of a refining process that filters out any impurities… until all that remains is pure gold.

Jupiter hasn’t exactly been comfortable since it entered Capricorn this past December. Jupiter longs for freedom, expansion, and new horizons; whereas Capricorn (ruled by Saturn) can be a bit confining and usually doesn’t reward us with what we want until we've “earned” it. Jupiter last found itself in Capricorn in 2008, when the United States was at a peak of economic recession and unemployment rates. While Capricorn is most often associated with career, I also connect it with hierarchies and political structures. Incidentally, Pluto also entered Capricorn in 2008, and won’t leave it behind until 2024. Jupiter and Pluto together can bring about drastic change, which doesn’t always feel smooth or comfortable. The fact that the economy and most governments are rife with corruption is something most of us recognize on an inherent level. The system has not been working. The universe at large is gradual yet relentless in bringing whatever is out of balance back into alignment. We are experiencing the contractions and labor pains of a new system trying to be born—one which will take many, many years to grow before it fully comes into fruition. Uranus redefining our finances and sense of stability in Taurus for the next six years will only further propel this economic shift. As humans, we often find ourselves in a homeostasis in which we tend to achieve equilibrium through experiencing different poles or extremes. Saturn, which will be retrograde from May 11th until September 29th, is also helping set the stage for many big changes as it finds itself in a tug-of-war between the iconoclasm of Aquarius and the status quo of Capricorn over the course of this year. If you’d like to read more about how Saturn will be influencing us through 2020 and beyond, check out my post from March covering Saturn in Aquarius. This Jupiter retrograde isn’t really a great time to focus on acquiring new things or climbing ladders, but treasuring what we have gained and achieved. Don’t be surprised if you find that your goals or priorities have completely shifted by the time December (or perhaps even September) rolls around, when Jupiter enters Aquarius. You might just see how the heights you once yearned for are actually a glass ceiling beneath your heart’s true desires. Over the next several months, don’t just try to figure out what you want out of a career or long-term project, but also why.

Don’t look for scarcity, and instead focus on what you have enough of. Recently, I’ve found so much gratitude and appreciation in many things I completely took for granted just months ago. Also consider how our real issue isn’t really scarcity, but rather, the distribution of resources or wealth. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve seen headlines and images of the huge quantities of food that have gone to waste, which has really always occurred on a massive scale anyways. So why exactly are people going hungry or even starving in certain parts of the world, when there is so much excess? While this topic may have quite a bit of weight to it, I personally feel relief in recognizing just how much abundance there is in the world—we just need to figure out how to make it accessible. With the North Node shifting into Gemini on May 6th and the Gemini New Moon on May 22nd, the door is going to be wide open for learning new skills or crafts, as well as community service or advocacy, whether it be through through donations or even just caring for or being considerate of others around us. Throughout the rest of the year, there is going to be a lot of emphasis on finding out who your people are, especially while Saturn is in Aquarius. Group polarization is also very important to be aware of. Are your thoughts, beliefs, and opinions your own? Or are you just trying to conform with or appease the people who aren’t even right for you? While isolation is certainly difficult, for many of us, it offers us time to really figure out who we are… and where we belong. Our actions and gestures are ultimately the foundations for which we build the future upon.

It is my sincerest hope that this forecast has stirred a sense of wonder and service for the times we find ourselves in.
