January 2023 Horoscope: Aspects & Transits

While 2023 may be off to a slow and possibly turbulent start, the end of January can really catapult us into the new year. Mars, Mercury and Uranus are retrograde until the 12th, 18th, and the 22nd, respectively. Mars represents action and willpower, but since the end of October, has brought old conflicts to the surface for closure, brought about accidents or injuries, and made it difficult to be productive. While agitating or depleting at times, Mars retrograde ultimately encourages us to reflect on why we do what we do, as well as the means with which we achieve our goals. It is also a time when the outcomes (or consequences) of our past actions come to fruition. 

Mercury retrograde makes misunderstandings, delays, and technical issues all the more likely this month. Adaptability and contingency planning is advisable during this period, as well as securing important documents and files. These planets have a felt impact on our daily lives, and will really be showing us what isn’t working anymore. We may be feeling especially overwhelmed around the Full Moon in Cancer on the 6th, yet discipline and dedication remain necessary as the Sun, Mercury, and Venus transit through the sign of Capricorn. There is a big difference between self-care and wallowing.

Aquarius season, which begins when the Sun enters Aquarius on the 20th, is when things really start to look up and get interesting. The New Moon on the 21st and Uranus direct station on the 22nd both have the potential to bring forth innovations and creative solutions. Things might start looking especially rosy when Venus enters Pisces, the sign of its exaltation, on January 26th.
