Astrological Forecast: February 2021 Collective Horoscope
February commences with the pagan holiday Imbolc in the Northern Hemisphere. Imbolc, also known as St. Brigid’s Day, falls exactly between the winter solstice and spring equinox. It marks the turning of seasons inspired the tradition of Groundhog’s Day in North America. Irish pagans would observe whether animals would begin emerging from their burrows on this day to signal the end of the coldest days of the year. Imbolc is a time to pray for good health, fertility, cleansing, gentle weather, and spring cleaning—ultimately circling around reassessment and preparation for the future. Imbolc roughly translates as “in the belly,” a reference to the pregnancy and birth of ewes (baby sheep) and the womb of Mother Earth beginning to conceive new life. The word conception is particularly resonant with the collective energy this month; whether this manifests as us conceiving of a new future, focusing on children or future generations, or even finding ourselves in an amniotic state of being between two worlds. Aquarian and Piscean energy both pertain to dreams and being of service to a higher calling. We should find many of these themes and concepts relevant with the astrology of this month regardless of where we are in the world.
February might feel a bit destabilizing at first, but ends off on some wonderful high notes. We begin the month in the wake of particularly intense Full Moon and Mercury retrograde in Aquarius. The passion, creativity, and individualism of the Full Moon in Leo on January 28th could have easily boiled up drama and ego wounds—inspiring much of the reflection and healing that will likely be in focus through the first part of the month. Mercury retrograde is notorious for being a time of miscommunications, travel delays, technical difficulties, and bringing up all sorts of issues or impediments in our daily lives. I mentioned last month that electronics and technology will be more prone to failure or breech this year, especially during the Mercury retrograde cycles, so we should ensure our files are backed up and our personal information is secure. Yet this retrograde period can serve us by confronting us with what isn’t working on our lives and is a great time for meditation, reflection, making readjustments, and tying up lose ends. While there is a sweeping desire for progression within the collective, there may be a sense of regression at first, but we should consider how whatever seems to be “suddenly falling apart” may have actually been dysfunctional or degrading in the background for quite sometime.
With February observing Black History Month we can be sure that discourse and reflection of racial and socioeconomic inequalities will be plentiful, particularly in light of this past year. While it is uncomfortable, we must acknowledge and explore our pain and division, rather than seek to heal the deep wounds of history with a quick fix. My friend El’li and I pulled Peacock for February during our New Years’ Day year ahead livestream. One of my interpretations for this card was an air of clout in media and the energy of communal narcissism. A communal narcissist is a person who adopts social causes or platforms for the purpose of bolstering their own image rather than a genuine desire to support their cause. Communal narcissism is one of the concepts I use to describe destructive or immature Aquarian energy, which will be plentiful not only this month, but throughout the decade as Saturn and Pluto take turns transiting through the sign of the water bearer. We should be able to clearly see the distinction between sympathy and solidary. Some public figures or social media influencers may just find themselves coming under scrutiny or the subject of scandal this month. The second impeachment of Trump set to begin on February 9th comes to mind as one such example.

Those of you who have been following my blogs or watching my videos for the past couple of months probably recall me talking about financial upheaval and reform being a major theme for 2021. One of the main reasons I keep referring to this financial instability is because Uranus in Taurus, which has been and will continue shaking up our sense of stability until 2026, is squaring with Saturn in Aquarius, which is pushing for social reformations for the next couple of years. The square between Saturn and Uranus will actually be the at it’s peak around February 17th. We should not turn to the stock market as the sole barometer for economic prosperity. With Mercury retrograde in the sign of Aquarius for most of the month, we should be very discerning with trends or rhetoric that seems too good to be true. The collective at large has been desiring different social and financial infrastructure for decades, which will likely manifest as a collapse if we are not taking strides towards a more humanitarian and ecologically-conscious economy. We might also find periods of strain on supply chains throughout this year, especially with agriculture, that result in shortages. Earth itself has a collective consciousness and is being pushed past many tipping points. We can easily draw the comparison that climatic changes such as tropical storms, temperature changes, wildfires, and even pathogens; are similar to immune responses the planet is having with our unsustainable consumption and shipping of resources across the globe. Over twenty free food stands have cropped up in my city in the past couple of months, and I suspect these (along with community gardens and locally grown produce) will just become more commonplace this year.
Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter join together in a very lovely triple conjunction in Aquarius towards the middle of the month. Both the New and Full Moon lunations usher in a lot of beautiful energy. This triple conjunction will be most powerful on the 11th, 13th, and 14th, as Mercury conjoins exactly with Venus and Jupiter respectively. Mercury loans itself towards introspection, especially since it is retrograde, while Venus and Jupiter offer a lot of beauty. The New Moon in Aquarius co-occurs with the conjunction between Venus and Jupiter on February 11th, making it an even more profound time for manifestation and envisioning a brighter future for yourself and the world at large.
We conclude the month with a Full Moon in Virgo on February 27th. Virgo is the sign of wellness, health, and routine. It is also a mutable sign, which means its influence can bring up shifts, while a Full Moon by itself is often characterized by bringing about change. Even after Mercury stations direct on the 20th, We may become aware of new or existing mutations of SARS-CoV-2 or gain new insights about the virus that could help us treat and prevent it. Incidentally, it was two days after the Virgo Full Moon of March 2020 last year when the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a global pandemic. However, this Virgoan Full Moon is forming a rare Earth Grand Trine between Mars in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn. A Grand Trine indicates periods of ease and harmony, as well as opportunities for healing, but can sometimes lead to complacency. February ends in fertile ground for long-term stability so long as we put in a little bit of effort and flow with this productive energy. Perhaps this Virgo Full Moon will help us reap what we have already sown. Mars and Pluto are really bringing the power to this this Grand Trine and afford us with an excellent time to commit and tangibly step up to new heights in our careers, personal goals, or relationships. We live in a critical juncture of history, and while it may be tempting during times of transition and great change, we should beware of defaulting on the old and familiar. Very often the comfort we seek actually exists beyond the confines of our comfort zone. February is a month to become the changes we want to make in the world.
